Rare Pacific football fish washed up on California beach (4 photos + 1 video)
The likelihood of meeting such fish on the surface is very rare.
A Pacific football fish with a long, light-bulb-like structure has washed up on a beach in Southern California. Only 30 copies of this creation have been collected worldwide.
According to Live Science, the fish is named so because of the similarity of its body shape to an American football ball. It belongs to the order of ray-finned fish, anglerfish. The species is also known as “monkfish”. The last time fish remains were found in California was more than two years ago.
Experts at Crystal Cove State Park, where the fish were found, noted that the remains of the fish were well preserved. The specimen has already been transferred to the Los Angeles Museum of Natural History for further research.
