Sci-fi movie fans in place? Great! A new opportunity has emerged to explain to American film experts how wrong they are. Recently, the famous film publication IndieWire published the TOP 60 best sci-fi films that were released in the 21st century. Yes, it sounds bold! After all, during this time a lot of cool films came out. We will not list the entire list, but will show only those who are in the TOP 15. The editors' decision is really curious, since, for example, "Interstellar" was not included in the list at all, and "Inception", from the same beloved Nolan, was only in 25th place. So, let's see who came in first place.

15th place - Arrival (2016)

14th place - Dune (2021)

Two films by Denis Villeneuve in a row.

13th place - Melancholia (2011)

Lars von Trier's surprise film on the sci-fi list.

12th place - Artificial Intelligence (2001)

We can say that science fiction in cinema of the 21st century starts with this film by Steven Spielberg.

11th place - She (2013)

10th place - Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

And here is the third film by Denis Villeneuve.

9th place - After Young (2021)

One of the more obscure films on the list. The family of Colin Farrell's hero breaks down their beloved android. But since he is practically indistinguishable from a person, the grief from this event is much greater than from a broken laptop.

8th place - No (2022)

The appearance of a UFO helps a brother and sister get their family business off their feet - an interesting sci-fi twist!

7th place - Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

Yes, in their opinion, a post-apocalyptic action movie is sci-fi.

6th place - Ex Machina (2014)

5th place - Everything everywhere and at once (2022)

4th place - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

A wonderful film that somehow made it onto this list. And all the way to 4th place!

3rd place - Walk in my shoes (2013)

The top three, according to IndieWire, opens with one of the most misunderstood films in the genre. Scarlett Johansson in an experimental semi-horror film about aliens.

2nd place - Dinosaur Invasion (2006)

A film by South Korean director Bong Joon-ho, who gave us Parasite. Here he shows viewers an atypical comedy-horror film about a monster that appeared due to the spilling of toxic substances in the Han River. By the way, this is the highest-grossing film in South Korean history.

1st place - Child of Man (2006)

Humanity can no longer have children and is heading towards the end of its existence. But! One child does appear, and he must be protected.

This plot, together with the incomparable direction of Alfonso Cuaron, who shot a large number of long, indivisible takes, makes this eerie dystopia worthy of first place.
