Famous movie characters who were decided to be “killed” off-screen (9 photos)
The death of a movie character is not always initially written into the script. Sometimes characters are “removed” from the franchise on purpose and unplanned, as sometimes force majeure situations occur behind the scenes (for example, quarrels and scandals). And sometimes there is no reason at all, and nothing is explained to the audience at all. And such decisions of screenwriters, directors and producers often have a negative impact on a series of films, since “strange plot gaps” appear in them, the logic of the narrative is violated, and in general, people are simply indignant because of the sudden “disappearance” of an actor who was liked by the public .
Newt and Hicks
They die off-screen between the second and third parts of Alien.
At the end of the second part, these two survivors, Ellen Ripley and the android Bishop, are sent to Earth in cryochambers. Happy end? No. The third part begins with the fact that a facehugger appears on their ship, which causes a fire. Newt and Hicks die, and Ripley ends up on something other than Earth.
Martin Brodie
In the movie Jaws: The Revenge (the fourth installment in the shark franchise), it is revealed that the hero died off-screen from a heart attack.
The characters hint that the disease was caused by fear of sharks. This is a very sad and unfairly written fate for the winner of the shark from the first part, which was Martin.
Sarah Connor
Dies off-screen from leukemia between the films Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.
The truth later comes to life in the film “Terminator: Dark Fate” (2019), which deliberately ignores the events of all the parts released after “Judgment Day”. Such a “studio” resurrection awaits another heroine from this list.
Alex Browning
Dies between the first and second parts of "Final Destination". In the sequel, it turns out that the cause of the hero's death was a brick falling on his head. There's even a photograph.
Stephen Hiller
Died off-screen between the first and second parts of Independence Day as a result of an accidental explosion after some alien technology he was working on malfunctioned. It’s somehow very ridiculous, but it was probably the creators’ revenge for the fact that Will Smith simply didn’t want to star in the sequel (and, judging by the film’s ratings, he did the right thing).
Adriana Balboa
The wife of the main character in the Rocky franchise dies of cancer off-screen between the films Rocky V and Rocky Balboa.
16 years passed between the films, and for some reason Sylvester Stallone wanted his hero to appear before the audience as a widower after such a long break.
Peter Clemenza
Dies of a heart attack off-screen between the first two parts of The Godfather. This is the same case when the actor did not please the creators (player Richard Castellano wanted to write his own lines) and he and his character were simply thrown out of the sequel, dryly explaining it as a heart attack.
Tank
Dies off-screen between the first two parts of The Matrix. The cause of death is not mentioned.
The actor who played the role, Marcus Chong, simply did not agree with the Warner studio on the amount of his fee for filming in the sequel (he asked for twice as much as he was offered) and even sued her after the refusal.
Laurie Strode
Dies in a car accident off-screen between the second and fourth parts of “Halloween” (in the third the heroine is not present at all). This seemed like a terribly unfair end for the Sarah Connor of the slasher film world.
But then in 1998's Halloween: 20 Years Later, we learn that Laurie actually faked her death. Thus, the confrontation between the heroine Jamie Lee Curtis and Michael Myers resumed and continues almost to this day. The last film in the series, “Halloween Ends” (let’s believe), was released in 2022.
