Chery repeated Volvo's trick - built a tower of eQ7 electric crossovers (3 photos + 1 video)
The Chinese company decided to demonstrate the strength of the body of its new product, and repeated the trick of the Swedish Volvo. Chery has built an improvised tower of seven eQ7 electric crossovers.
The crossover, placed at the base of the tower, withstood the weight of not only its six brothers, but also the additional mass of the platforms, which the “architects” used as a kind of spacers. They were used to give the structure stability.
According to the requirements of the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety IIHS, which is known for its crash tests, for the maximum rating, the car body must withstand a load of four of its own weight. Thus, Chery exceeded the standard by at least one and a half times, while nothing has yet been announced about the Chinese concern’s plans to introduce the eQ7 electric car to the American market.
The idea of the trick is not new. Volvo, now part of Chinese manufacturer Geely, has been using such demonstrations in its promotions since the 1980s. Previously, the Swedish company built towers from its sedans, and in 2021 it used the XC60 crossovers. Perhaps the most extreme episode was four trucks stacked on top of each other. Volvo erected this structure with a total weight of 58 tons in 2020. To further emphasize its strength, the then president of Volvo Trucks, Roger Alm, climbed to the top of the structure.
