“I was a punk”: Angelina Jolie spoke about motherhood and her dark side (7 photos)
In an interview with Vogue magazine, Angelina Jolie said that motherhood "saved" her from crises, and admitted that at 48 years old she continues to explore and discover her personality. The actress also spoke about her new project - a creative space in which talented designers can flourish.
In a recent interview, Angelina admitted that if it weren’t for the children, she would have plunged into darkness long ago
“I don’t want to be a great designer. But I want to create a space that will help others,” the star said about her new creation.
Her goal is to build a multi-functional space including a design studio, art gallery and café in collaboration with organizations providing assistance to refugees.
The actress became a mother at the age of 26. “My whole life has changed. The birth of children saved me and taught me to relate to this world differently. If I didn’t want to live for them, I would have sunk a long time ago,” Angelina shared.
In November, Jolie launches a new project - the fashion house Atelier Jolie
In 2002, Jolie adopted her first child, Maddox Siobhan Jolie-Pitt, from an orphanage in Cambodia.
Before this fateful decision, the actress had never shown interest in motherhood.
“It’s strange, but I never wanted to have children,” she says. I never wanted to be pregnant. I never babysat other people’s children. I never thought of myself as a mother.”
Her two children, Zahara (18 years old) and Pax (19 years old), are involved in a fashion and charity project
In 2005, Jolie adopted her daughter Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt, and the following year Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt became pregnant.
In 2007, she and Brad Pitt adopted Pax Tien Jolie-Pitt. The following year, the couple announced that they were expecting twins, and they gave birth to Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt.
"They are better than me because that's what we all want our children to be. Of course, as a mother, I give them security and stability. But I'm also the one they laugh at, and I see how they take on many aspects of our families".
Her eldest daughter Zahara, a student at Spelman College, helped decide on the location of the studio. The choice fell on a two-story, graffiti-covered building in New York, which previously belonged to Andy Warhol. She also offered to make a silk dress in pastel shades for her mother.
Over the past decade, Jolie has divorced Brad Pitt and undergone a prophylactic mastectomy.
Recent years have been difficult for the actress. Her divorce from Brad Pitt, whom she met in 2004 on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, became public knowledge in 2016.
In addition, in 2013, Jolie underwent a preventative double mastectomy. Doctors determined that she had an 87% risk of developing breast cancer due to a defective BRCA1 gene.
“I haven’t felt like myself for ten years now.”
"I've been feeling depressed lately. I feel like I haven't felt like myself for ten years," said the former UN Goodwill Ambassador for Refugees.
She takes on fewer and fewer roles and agrees only to projects that do not require lengthy filming. Her latest film is The Eternals, released in 2021.
"At 48, I'm still learning about myself. I'm probably in a period of transition as a person."
The celebrity confirms her rebellious past was "hard and dark" and she's proud to be a survivor.
"I was quite gloomy when I was young. I was a punk, not a fashionista. I went shopping, cut things up, burned little holes in them with cigarettes. That was my adolescence, and I wouldn't trade it for anything else. Maybe this part of me wants to rebel."
