Football in the swamp is a separate song. Competitions attend until 30,000 spectators and watch as 250-300 teams from all over the world desperately riding in the mud.

This competition has historical roots, - says Eero Pitkänen, secretary of the cultural department of the Sonkajärvi community. – At 17–18 for centuries, robbers hunted in our places, who not only dragged loot on their backs, but sometimes they stole women from the villages and took them to their shelters.

In 1986, the local authorities remembered this historical past and held the first competitions.
