Turkish sailors rescued a Frenchman who wanted to cross the ocean in a pedal boat
He dreamed of getting to New York on this Pepelats, but something went wrong.
Frenchman Didier Bovard decided to get from Paris to New York on his own two feet. Well, not quite for two - he used pedal transport. In 18 days, Bovard cycled to Lisbon, then spent a month to get to the Canary Islands. And from there he went to New York - on a makeshift boat with pedals.
On the way to York, his plan went to a well-known place and had to send a signal for help. His plain-looking boat turned out to be not so simple - it even had a satellite phone. On it, the traveler sent an SOS, Turkish sailors responded to it and pulled the “pedal” out of the ocean.
By that time, he was drifting 200 km from Puerto Rico. The pedals of his water "pepelats" broke, besides, a hurricane was approaching. If not for the Turkish ship, everything would have become very sad.
