Homogeneous volcanic glass is formed in melts with a water content of no more than 1%. The more water-rich volcanic glasses that swell during the solidification of lava are among the perlites. On the other hand, slower cooling of the lava leads to normal crystallization of the melt: in this case, not glass would form, but the actual rock, consisting mainly of quartz, feldspar and mica.
Such beautiful objects are obtained from this material.
