The Code of Sassoon is a unique sacred text. It contains everything 24 books of the Hebrew Bible that have survived to this day, including five books Moses. The manuscript is an important part of the Jewish and world stories. Some texts from it date back to the first century AD. One interesting feature of this manuscript is the Masoretic notes on margins (masora parva - small masora) and under the text (masora magna - large masorah), which were intended to preserve the authentic text when rewriting. They fixed the canonized Hebrew text of the Bible (Tanakh) and the rules for its design.

The book had several owners, but in the end it ended up in the synagogue of Makisin in what is now Syria. In the 13th-14th century the synagogue was destroyed, but the Bible was preserved - with a note in which it was it was ordered to hand it over to Salama ibn Abi al-Fakhr. After restoration of the synagogue he was asked to return the book - and then she passed down from generation to generation.



The Bible went to auction at Sotheby's in May 2023. Her put up for sale by the Swiss financier and collector Jacqui Safra, who bought it in 1989. Alfred became the new owner of the Bible Moses, former US Ambassador. The book went under the hammer for $38 million, and then became one of the most expensive manuscripts in history. Moses has already donated the manuscript to the Museum of the Jewish People in Tel Aviv.
