LEGO sent 1,000 legonauts into the stratosphere (5 photos + 1 video)
Lego teamed up with Czech-Slovak space experts to send 1,000 minifigures to travel aboard stratospheric balloons. 
"Legonauts" seated in a 3D printed space shuttle without a roof, were launched on three separate air balls, each of which contained about 330 figures. Air the balls lifted the figurines to a height of 34 km, and reaching a temperature of -70°C, burst. Tiny astronauts returned safely to Earth on specially designed mini-platforms reminiscent of space shuttles. 
A survey conducted by Lego 2019 showed that about 90% of children astronauts are still considered one of the most interesting professions. This the expedition can be considered not only an unusual marketing campaign, but also evidence of a growing interest in space exploration. 
“We want to show children that their dreams can go beyond limits of the usual space,” said Iva Ambrozhova, director of Lego marketing in the Czech Republic. "Lego aims to inspire little builders and support them on their way to the realization of everything that Maybe".
A group of space engineers from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, led by Thomas Rousek had to make sure that none of the astronauts fell from the shuttle during the descent of the platform. In free fall Lego astronauts have reached speeds of up to 300 km/ h, so ensure they security was a challenge. 
In addition, the weight of the entire platform, including the legonauts, is not had to exceed 2.7 kg in order for the balloons to take off. The space shuttle was built using lightweight materials such as like carbon fiber, stainless steel and plastic.
The successful mission was documented using two cameras: one controlled the working compartment, and the other provided a view from front of the platform.
