86-year-old Briton broke the world record for powerlifting in his category (8 photos + 1 video)
Brian Winslow set the record by lifting 165 pounds (74.8 kg) in his first routine at the British Association Championships Drug Free Powerlifting (BDFPA) in Horncastle, Lincolnshire. And already earned the nickname "Britain's Strongest Grandpa".
The athlete made three attempts to break the record, first successfully lifting 165 pounds (74.8 kg), then lifting 171 pounds (77.5 kg) and, finally lifting 172 pounds (78 kg), but the last attempt was not counted. Its own weight is about 62 kg.
I'm a little disappointed that the third attempt didn't was counted. It wasn't too hard for me, I just made a mistake in technique, because I thought too much about what I was doing. I used to lifted 80 kg at home, and nine years ago in the gym lifted 150 kg.
The BDFPA has confirmed that Winslow is British and world record holder in the 60 kg category among male athletes aged 85 to 89 years.
A man fell in love with weightlifting in the 1950s, but seriously He started powerlifting after his divorce from his wife. That's what he talking about that time:
I, among other things, wanted to look good then, to be successful with women, and tried to make his hands as big as possible powerful. I had some unforgettable years.
Soon the hobby became a huge part of his life, almost obsession. He trained to the point of wear and tear, to the point of nosebleeds and knee injury (had to undergo surgery to replace it).
I get very tired after every competition, so I have a few days off, but I can't stay away for so long with weights. I think this is the best sport, but also the most difficult.
Brian Winslow is an experienced bodybuilder who lifts gravity for almost 60 years and trains six days a week in his home gym.
He says he plans to continue weightlifting until he is 90, as it is vital to him.
I know that I am not an ordinary grandfather, but I love challenge and push myself forward, and in the end, I I compete for myself and no one else. I will continue until the body allows, but at the moment I feel ready to fight.
