A man turned his apartment into a slot machine hall and lost his fiancee (14 photos)
The 37-year-old New Yorker became addicted to the arcade games of the 80s. Passion quickly grew into an obsession: he turned the room into his apartment in the arcade. As a result, he was abandoned bride, but now there is a place to arrange a tournament with friends!
So this is Chris Kulris, he's 37 years old. He was successful PR man, he had a girlfriend and an apartment in Manhattan. He moved in with his fiancee in Brooklyn and put his apartment up for sale.
This is what Chris Kulris's bedroom looked like when it all started.
And it started small.
Three things happened that changed Koulris' life forever: the apartment was not sold, he began to feel claustrophobic living in his girlfriend's apartment with all her things, and he also stumbled upon a sci-fi novel called "Ready Player One" about video game culture in the 1980s. Based on this book, in 2018 it was even filmed movie.
The book just blew me away. She awakened something in me, and I began to think: “Why am I not surrounded by all these things that I love since childhood?
So, he began to transform his empty apartment.
At first, the bride supported him. For example, she helped design a tiled floor.
And then this project just took over Chris' life.
He spent $32,000 to build his own 1980s arcade.
The bride was tired of his obsession. At first she refused attend a presentation party in honor of the opening of the hall, and then gave him back his wedding ring and left him.
Chris finally has the opportunity to live in the arcade of his dreams, but the love of his life is gone.
He returned home. And it turned out that "living in the arcade" is not so much fun.
This is not where I wanted to be.
Now he hosts weekly arcade tournaments with his friends. No wonder he tried!
The poor fellow put everything he had on the line for a room that he no longer really cares about.
