Swedish Icehotel has finally opened its icy doors for the winter season 2022/2023. Every year since 1989, the hotel has been rebuilt in the village of Jukkasjärvi, 200 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. AT this year, 24 artists worked on the 33rd hotel in a row, who created 12 unique rooms full of amazing ice sculptures, and also one suite in Icehotel 365, the version of the hotel that is open round the clock year.
Glittering dome, video game-inspired sculptures and giant mushrooms are just some of the beautiful ice creations created sculptors. In addition, the hotel now has a new lounge for "small celebrations" with a stylized flower in the center, designed by Wouter Bigelaar and Viktor Tsarsky.
The process of creating the hotel began in the spring, when from the Torne River blocks of ice were collected and placed in a warehouse in Jukkasjärvi. Later when construction began, artists sculpted their creations using 500 tons of ice and 10 Olympic pools of a mixture of snow and ice. They were helped hotel construction team and creative director Luca Roncoroni. To the rooms remained in perfect condition, the temperature inside the hotel maintained strictly at -5 degrees Celsius.
Designers Rob and Timsam Harding reported that the ice dome is located in the "Closed Space" room, where "it will be possible to enjoy an igloo inside another igloo." And the number "Garden", created by Natsuki and Shingo Saito, decorated with a giant flower.
The "Record" issue is dedicated to video games and is a gaming a room that will allow you to "plunge into nostalgia for a simpler era." This issue was designed by Sonia Chow and Hushang Purian.
The inspiration for the number "Maighdeann-roin", created by Emily Steele and Sarah Steele served as a Celtic legend about silks, mythical seal women. "Secrets and messages are hidden everywhere in the snowy sculptures, sparkling ice, music and a bittersweet story that plays out as soon as you enter the room,” say the designers.
Inspired by the Bauhaus design movement of the 1920s and 30s years, the Bau-ice Suite by Luc Voisin and Mathieu Brison invites guests "go back in time" and appreciate the Bauhaus inherent geometric shapes, rounded furniture, lines and stripes.
And Chris Panko and Peter Hargraves created the "Mushroom" number, which looks like a forest carved out of ice, filled with Jurassic mushrooms period".
In addition to rooms, the hotel offers visitors various activities, including private snowmobile rides, ice fishing, dog sledding, horseback riding and hiking to look at the northern lights. The hotel will be open until April 2023.
