A landslide covered a resort town in Italy with a one and a half meter layer of mud
A powerful landslide descended on the resort town of Casamicciola on the Italian island of Ischia, dragging cars, trucks and buses with it, dozens of buildings were destroyed.
A river of mud and debris hit Casamicciola, a municipality on the island of Ischia, around 5:00 am on November 26th.
Local authorities report that literally 126 millimeters of rain fell in just 6 hours. After such a heavy rain, the city was covered with a mud landslide.
A landslide descended from Mount Epomeo, located behind the village, carrying with it boulders and fragments of trees, this in turn led to the collapse of at least 10 buildings. At the moment, rescuers cannot reach 30 isolated families. The road leading to their homes is currently impassable due to mud.
200 people must be evacuated, houses are in danger of collapse. 10 of them are no longer recoverable.
As a result of the landslide, a woman died, 13 people were injured and 11 are considered missing.
Mud covered cars and entire neighborhoods. The strong wind blowing on the island makes it difficult for rescuers to work, but the work continues.
In the port, cars are clearly visible, which mud flows simply carried out to sea, including those that were not parked near the port. No luck and two tourist buses.
Rescue work is still ongoing, but a large number of neighborhoods are still left without electricity and water, and rescuers cannot reach them.
