In Africa, a photographer built a pond, and animals now come to drink (17 photos)
People can watch how the inhabitants of the savanna quench their thirst.
Will Burrard-Lucas has been photographing African nature for a long time.
Will recently completed another unusual project, Shompole Hide, giving African animals a good place to drink, and travelers and photographers - the best place in Africa to observe this fascinating spectacle.
Burrard-Lucas has worked for the last two years at the Champole park in Kenya. This park is located on the territory of the Masai people, and tourism is one of the main sources of income here. During the day it is very hot in the park and dusty, so encounters with animals are not so frequent.
But at night this area comes alive, especially where there are ponds: dozens of animals of different species flock to the watering hole. Photographer's attention attracted a tiny body of water, more reminiscent of a puddle: during the day it was here empty, but night vision cameras captured an incredible amount animals near this modest pond.
Then Will had an idea: he decided to make the pond bigger, and equip an observation platform nearby. And so the Shompole Hide project was born.
For him, next to the reservoir, two containers were installed with observation windows, and inside they put rollaway beds for convenience travelers.
Pipes were laid to the reservoir, now there is regular access here clean water for animals and it never dries up. Will had to not long to wait: after a few days, even more people began to come to the pond animals.
Two cargo containers, modest in their amenities, have now become a magnet for photographers as well as for all wildlife lovers. Thanks to this project, the Maasai people will be able to give an extraordinary experience travelers.
