Fisheries Canada using a drone tracked down humpback whale, which accidentally "planted" itself on the rope of a floating buoy and couldn't get rid of it. Rescuers rushed to help animal.
The rescue mission in the Strait of Georgia near Vancouver lasted about five hours.
The whale was moving too fast and they tried to slow it down.
Rescuers had to tie another rope to the whale to keep it from moving too fast and hurting itself more.
Feeling the additional weight of the rope that slowed him down, the whale performed an acrobatic stunt - a back flip!
He opened his mouth wide and finally managed to free himself from rope stuck in it. According to rescuers, the "baited" animal stayed for two days. All this time, two more humpback whales were waiting for him nearby.
After a miraculous rescue, the magnificent trio were finally able to set sail on their own business.
According to the rescuers, they were completely delighted with what they saw and from that their mission was ultimately successful. "It was easy amazing,” they said.
Humpback whales are considered one of the most endangered whales in the world: their 35,000 to 40,000 left. In the US, approaching a humpback whale is a federal crime, and the response team, supported by the government of Canada, was supposed to act on special federal permission.
These mammals are often found along the Pacific coast, from California to Canada, summer and fall, and then migrate south to coast of Mexico.
