A Mongolian farmer has grown a green oasis in the middle of the Gobi Desert (6 photos)
82-year-old Mongolian farmer Baraaduuz Demchig is often mentioned as living proof that man can fight desertification. Its 16 hectare oasis is located in the middle of barren Gobi desert, and for many kilometers around you can not see any other vegetation. This is a real miracle! Which for 30 years planned, groomed and nurtured by Baraaduuz and his family.
The landscaping project began in 1992. Farmer decided to grow cabbage, but almost the entire crop died - dust storms blown fragile plants straight out of the ground.
Then Baraaduuz Demchig realized that first you need to protect the garden from strong winds, and began to plant elms. When in the second year the trees grew up, the harvest was saved.
And so, year after year, the farmer planted and planted trees. Over time he grew a huge plantation of fruit trees and shrubs. results The works of Baraaduuz are impressive: a real green oasis has blossomed in the desert.
It became a life's work that the farmer passed on to his grandchildren. Today, they proudly continue to farm.
Although its 16 hectares seem insignificant compared to vast Gobi desert, Baraaduuz Demchig calculated that on his land he has grown over 400,000 trees, many of which have been sold farmers interested in following his example.
Looking out over the barren wasteland surrounding the green oasis of Baraaduuz, it becomes painfully obvious that few plants could grow here without care or protection. And yet, the Mongolian farmer has already several dozen has been growing sea buckthorn, raspberries and other fruit bushes for years.
“The ravine in which my land is located freezes down to -30 degrees in winter Celsius, and in summer it warms up to 30 degrees Celsius. Two extremes, one very cold and one very hot. So if there a tree grows, it proves that a tree can grow anywhere.” says Baraaduuz Demchig.
