Italian resident Federica Grassi visited Piedmont and saw Alpine goats walking along the steep wall of a local dam. According to the woman, the slope of the dam is almost 90 degrees, and the height is 49 meters, so goats have already become famous as malicious violators of gravity. But ungulates have a very good reason for extreme walks.

The dam rises two kilometers above sea level, and its own height is 49 meters. However, this is not what impressed Federica. Once in Piedmont, the woman noticed goats that ignore the degree of inclination of the wall and, without aids, climb to incredible heights.

“The height of the dam is about 50 meters, and the slope, according to local residents, is close to 90 degrees, that is, it stands almost vertical,” Grassi was amazed in a conversation with journalists.

However, do not rush to follow the Italian and worry about the horned ones. The steep and rocky landscape is the natural habitat of high-altitude goats, which are capable of climbing to peaks of up to four thousand meters.

According to Federica, recently, risky animal walks have become a common sight for local residents.

“At first, what I saw seemed impossible to me. But on the way back to my car, not far from the dam, I met the owner of a mountain hut. He told me that he sees goats every day.”

As the woman explained, contrary to popular belief, crazy goats do not rebel against gravity. Soft and mobile hooves help them stay on the stones barely protruding from the wall, and sensitive and large ears allow them to catch the slightest vibrations in the air and maintain balance.

Nevertheless, the question remains open why Alpine goats do not sit in the mountains and why they attack a man-made dam. The answer literally lies on the surface. Grassi explains that about a hundred years ago, the Diga del Cincigo was built from materials that, over time, began to show useful minerals. They attract ungulates.

“The goats walk back and forth along the wall and lick the mineral salts,” Federica said.

In addition, moss, which is tasty for herbivores, actively grows on the damp wall, which gives the goats even more reasons to risk their lives and fight for a good place. Grassi said she saw wrestling males locking horns while walking along the dam.

According to a local resident, between 15 and 25 goats walk along the wall a day. However, such pictures are observed not only by Italian travelers, because desperate herbivores can be seen in America and the Philippines.
