A farmer from Transbaikalia found abandoned Pallas cat kittens (2 photos)

On the Internet you can often see stories of someone finding abandoned kittens or puppies. This happened to one farmer from Transbaikalia: one day, next to his barn, he discovered completely tiny, still blind kittens. All of them were, as if by choice, the same color, fluffy, but so small that the farmer decided that these were the most ordinary kittens, whose mother lambed next to a person’s home, and then for some reason abandoned them.

Not knowing how to help the kittens (after all, sitting and feeding the babies with a pipette, as well as providing them with regular care - this takes a lot of time), the farmer turned to the Daursky Nature Reserve. There, experts suggested that the farmer find an ordinary domestic cat that has recently had kittens, or even that is currently raising its offspring, and try to “persuad” the mother to accept new providers. However, when the reserve workers saw exactly what kind of kittens the man had found, they gasped.

It turned out that the kittens found were Pallas cat cubs. This is a very rare and rather poorly studied species of cat. They are not tamed, and if at a small age Pallas' cats get along quite easily with people, then as soon as they grow up, their instincts take over and keeping such animals in the house becomes unbearable. However, the cost of these rare animals on the black market reaches several hundred thousand rubles: there are always enough people who want to have exotic animals at home, and it is almost impossible to catch a Pallas's cat in the wild, let alone find kittens.

Theoretically, it would be possible to sell the babies for decent money. However, this would hardly benefit the little Pallas cat. This type of animal feels good only in the wild. Therefore, the farmer decided to transfer the expensive find to the reserve so that they would help the kittens grow up and then release them into the wild.

In the reserve they found feeding cats for the little Pallas cat, and, fortunately, they accepted the unusual cubs. The older the Pallas' cat became, the more active they became. When they were old enough to live independently, the reserve workers released them into the wild, putting radio collars on the animals. However, with the arrival of winter, the young kittens faced challenges they were not prepared for. At some point, they even all threw off their collars, and when people found them again, the kittens were pretty thin.

Adult Pallas' cats are not suitable for living indoors.

The Pallas cats were taken indoors again, allowing them to spend their first winter gradually adapting to wild conditions, and with the approach of spring, when the wild cats had already become stronger and learned to hunt better, they were released again. After this, the Pallas' cat adapted to wild life much better and now they feel great living in their natural environment.
