How does a woman live today who gave birth to quadruplets at the age of 65, with already 13 children (10 photos)
A few years ago, a Berlin resident once again became a mother. This would not be surprising if not for several “buts” at once. The woman giving birth at that time was 65 years old, she had 13 children, and in her uterus, after artificial insemination, 4 fetuses developed simultaneously. According to German laws, IVF is prohibited for women at this age, so Annagret found a sperm and egg donor in Ukraine, and there, in Kyiv, doctors carried out the fertilization itself.
65-year-old Berlin resident Annegret Raunigk set a kind of world record: no woman at her age has ever been able to give birth to quadruplets, but Annegret did it after going through many obstacles.
Firstly, the woman already had 13 children at that time, from five different fathers. “It just happened,” Annagret said in an interview.
A former school teacher, now retired, says: “It seemed to me that my older children had grown up (the oldest was 44 years old at that time), and my youngest daughter (she was 9) did not know what a younger brother or sister was.”
In order to get pregnant, Frau Raunigk, after 18 months of unsuccessful attempts, resorted to the method of in vitro fertilization.
At the same time, doctors in Germany refused to perform such an operation, because according to the law, the IVF procedure is prohibited for a woman of that age, and Annagret found a sperm and egg donor in Ukraine, and there, in Kiev, the doctors performed the fertilization itself.
“Thanks to children, I always felt young,” said the unusual pregnant woman
After an ultrasound, it was discovered that Annagret was pregnant with quadruplets. Doctors suggested she get rid of two, but Annagret refused. Having been observed throughout the entire pregnancy, which, however, despite her age, proceeded without any complications, Annagret soon, using a caesarean section, gave birth to four premature children much earlier than term, two of whom required intensive care.
All the children were released, after several months spent in the incubator, to the delight of their mother.
The public was outraged by this act - after all, not only did the woman expose herself to such a risk, but her children were also at risk.
Today Annegret is the mother of 17 children, the oldest of whom is 46 years old, and the grandmother of seven grandchildren.
The family today moved to a new home near Berlin and is celebrating the quadruplets’ birthday with their rather wide family circle
What do you think about this - is she great for taking a risk and giving life to four more, or is such a risk completely unacceptable at that age?
