A Polish swimmer has become the first person in history to cross the Baltic Sea non-stop. He covered 160 kilometers in 55 hours without once touching the support boat.
Polish daredevil Bartłomiej Kubkowski undertook this historic swim. He started in Sweden and, after 55 hours, reached the beach in Dziwnów, Poland. He conquered the 160-kilometer distance only on his fifth attempt.
The rules were extremely strict: no sleeping and no holding onto the support boat. For the record to be officially recognized, Bartłomiej had to exit the water and step onto the sand under his own power. Upon finishing, he candidly admitted that severe sleep deprivation had caused hallucinations and that he couldn't even process what he was feeling.
He certainly didn't swim for the sake of fame. While he battled the waves, caring people raised nearly 600,000 zlotys for a foundation supporting children with cancer.
