A man faces a year in prison for throwing stones at a rare seal in Hawaii

A 37-year-old businessman originally from Ukraine, now living in Seattle, was relaxing on a beach on the island of Maui in Hawaii. He decided to amuse himself by throwing rocks at a monk seal swimming nearby.

Bystanders filmed the video; they tried to reason with the man, but he simply waved them off, claiming he was "rich and could pay any fines."

But the fines weren't the only issue: the police became interested in the man, and outraged locals organized a protest outside his company's office. The Ukrainian was ultimately detained, and an investigation is currently underway.
