In Guatemala, archaeologists have discovered the well-preserved remains of an ancient Mayan settlement at the bottom of Lake Atitlán. According to researchers, the settlement was flooded after a volcanic eruption and is located at a depth of approximately 15 meters. Underwater excavations revealed platforms, the foundations of residential buildings, and stone monuments. The finds have been tentatively dated to between 350 BC and 250 AD. Scientists believe the discovered village may be part of a larger system of sunken settlements hidden beneath the region's waters.
