On October 31, 2025, residents of Artesia, New Mexico, witnessed a serious incident at HF Sinclair's Navajo Refinery. An explosion occurred at the refinery, followed by a massive fire.
The incident caused thick smoke to spread throughout the city, forcing authorities to declare a state of emergency for local residents. Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire that same day.
According to preliminary reports, three workers were injured. Operations at the refinery were suspended. A special commission has begun investigating the circumstances of the incident.
