A house that came from heaven
The small blue house appears to have landed after a flight, tilted at an angle above the campus, creating the impression of hovering between reality and fantasy. Inside, a lived-in space features furniture, photographs, and a miniature garden, yet the entire interior is slightly tilted, creating a feeling of slight disorientation for visitors.
The installation explores themes of home, displacement, and belonging, reflecting the artist's personal experience of moving between countries and cultures. Fallen Star cost over $1.4 million to create, funded by donations and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Since its opening in 2012, the house has become a symbol of the university and one of the most recognizable public art works in the city.
