Old Porsche 911 sold for 41 times its original price (27 photos)
At the Gooding auction, a tuned version of the Porsche 911 from the RUF studio was sold for $6,055,000. At the same time, in the second half of the 1980s, when RUF produced these cars, their starting price was $147,800. The example that went under the hammer became one of the most expensive Porsches and the most expensive RUF in the history of the iconic studio. 
The RUF CTR, nicknamed Yellowbird for its spectacular yellow body color, is based on the 911 Carrera. The body with improved aerodynamics was redesigned using aluminum and fiberglass. The suspension and engine were not ignored either. Taking the 3.2-liter boxer as a basis, the tuners increased its volume to 3.4 liters and equipped it with a twin-turbocharger. As a result, the output of the unit increased approximately twofold - to 470 hp and 553 Nm.
All the changes are explained by the desire to build the fastest car of its time. As a result, the RUF CTR turned out to be more dynamic than the Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Diablo and Porsche 959. Test pilots from Road&Track were once able to accelerate the sports car to a phenomenal 343 km/h for the 1980s.
The example that went under the hammer was the 26th in the batch. It is believed that this is one of only four CTRs equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission of RUF's own design, and one of nine with this body color. However, the sports car's mileage makes it especially valuable: it has traveled only 1,673 kilometers since assembly.
