African estate of rare long-necked animals (8 photos + 1 video)

There is a huge estate not far from Nairobi. It is notable for the fact that the area is home to endangered Rothschild giraffes, which were fed from the window by Mick Jagger and Walter Cronkite.





The Rothschild giraffe is one of the endangered giraffe subspecies. They are unfortunately extinct in South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and survive only in Kenya and Uganda, where their numbers are very small.



To try to address this threat, the African Wildlife Trust (AWF) established the Giraffe Centre in 1979 to breed Rothschild's giraffes on a 57-hectare plot of land. Their attempt to increase the animals' numbers and return them to national parks was successful. Since then, they have focused on educating local youth about conservation.





The founders of the Giraffe Center also needed a place to live, and it so happened that a brick mansion, hidden in a blanket of ivy, was located right in the middle of the chosen territory. After living there for several years, the founders came up with a brilliant idea: to turn the mansion into a luxury hotel called "Giraffe Manor."



The idea turned out to be brilliant. Today, Giraffe Manor is one of the most iconic and unique hotels in the world. Now in the mornings, the inhabitants of the Giraffe Center come out of their natural habitat to the windows of Giraffe Manor to have breakfast with guests.



They either lower their necks down to reach the lower rooms, or stretch them up to reach the windows of the upper floor.



The spotted cuties devour everything on the plate, with their faces right next to the faces of the hotel guests. Since they have the right to unlimited movement, this happens solely at their own discretion. After finishing their meal, they stick their heads out of the huge windows of Giraffe Manor and continue to live their normal lives.
