Figure skater Elena Gulyakova has been living on the streets of Monterrey, Mexico, for over ten years. In 2001, she came to the country with her husband Nikolai Suetov and became a coach in prestigious sports clubs.
Gulyakova has repeatedly led her charges to international competitions, and she herself has taken part in the Holiday on Ice ice shows. But in 2006, a black streak began in her life.
Recently, one of the students met Gulyakova and told on social media: "Seeing a face familiar from childhood, I decided to call out to her: "Elena! Elena!" She looked me straight in the eyes and decisively answered: "I don't recognize you! I don't recognize you! I'm a businesswoman! I work at Promoda."
The girl added: "If you happen to meet her, don't hesitate to offer your help and say hello. She is very kind, helpful and loves to communicate with people. She speaks fluent Spanish and English, she will be very happy to hear you say "hello".
She also noted that Gulyakova coached her 13 years ago. But now Elena does not want to return to the world of figure skating.
In 2006, Gulyakova was arrested on suspicion of vandalism. She was placed in the psychiatric ward of Topo Chico prison, but was soon released because there was not enough evidence.
Four years later, she was diagnosed with schizophrenia. The symptoms worsened after her marriage broke up. Elena quit her job.
Last year, internet users and local media reported seeing Gulyakova walking the streets of Tepatitlan, Jalisco.
A recent video published by El Norte shows a woman walking down the street covered in a blanket and attempting to damage cars.
"Elena Gulyakova, who was a famous figure skating coach in the sports clubs of San Pedro, was spotted again on the streets of Monterrey," the publication wrote on November 28.
