From Hollywood to Bars: 5 Actors Who Will Never Be Released (7 photos)
The world of cinema often seems glamorous and flawless: celebrities bask in the limelight, walk the red carpet, and earn millions for their roles. Sure, money and prestige can buy a lot, but sometimes gaining popularity or big money can lead to people making questionable decisions. And sometimes, the spotlight fades, and a spot on the red carpet is replaced by a prison sentence.
Danny Masterson
48-year-old Danny Masterson, known to many for the film "Yes Man" with Jim Carrey in the lead role, the TV series "Men at Work" and "The Ranch", found himself at the center of one of the most resonant Hollywood trials of recent years.
In 2023, an American court sentenced the actor to an indefinite prison term: from 30 years to life for committing violence against two women back in the early 2000s.
The allegations against Masterson surfaced amid the #MeToo movement in the United States, where many people (mostly women) have been speaking out since 2017 about various types of harassment in the entertainment industry, and hundreds of famous men have been jailed or publicly disowned and have lost their careers because of it.
In addition, Danny Masterson's connection to the Church of Scientology has also caused a wide public outcry, as victims have claimed that the organization tried to intimidate them and cover up the actor's crimes.
For the actor, who was once a public favorite, this story has become a disaster. To make matters worse, with an indefinite sentence behind bars, he may be eligible for parole after serving 25 years, but he could also remain in prison for life.
Michael Jace
Michael Jace was a prominent character actor in the '90s and 2000s. He appeared in classic TV shows like Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and films like Forrest Gump and Boogie Nights, and even once played Michael Jordan in a TV movie.
But the actor's most iconic role came in 2002, when he portrayed Officer Julian Lowe on The Shield. It is possible that this is the role most people know him for, as the series was incredibly popular at the time and was even nominated for the prestigious Emmy Award (the equivalent of an Oscar for TV series) 5 times.
However, after his really big role, the actor stopped acting in films. The lack of work contributed to financial problems, which increased tensions in the relationship with his wife April Jace. These problems, along with a history of constant scandals, reached their peak in 2014, when an enraged Michael Jace killed his wife in front of his sons after she asked him for a divorce.
Jace received a 40-year prison sentence at the age of 53, which virtually guarantees that he will spend the rest of his days in prison. But of course, there is a minimal chance that if this man lives to 93, he could theoretically be free. However, his long-standing health and heart problems mean that this is unlikely to happen.
Joe Sung
Joe Sung is a former Korean mixed martial artist with a record of 0–4 and an actor best known for his role in the cult comedy Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. However, his life off screen has been far from comedy.
In 2011, Joe Son was found guilty and sentenced to life without parole for the kidnapping, beating and multiple rape of a woman that occurred back in 1990.
However, while in his cell, he quarreled and killed his cellmate, for which he received an additional 27 years in prison (on top of his already existing life sentence).
Ryan Grantham
Ryan Grantham is a Canadian actor, known to many from the film "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus", "Diary of a Wimpy Kid", a couple of episodes of "Supernatural" and "Riverdale".
Grantham suffered from various mental health issues, which led him to kill his mother in 2020 and then attempt to assassinate Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. He loaded his car with guns and set off, but was instead arrested by authorities the next day.
In September 2022, 26-year-old Grantham was sentenced to life in prison.
Harvey Weinstein
Harvey Weinstein is another name that has come to symbolize the fall of the Hollywood elite in the era of the #MeToo movement. Although he is best known as the influential producer behind the creation of Miramax Films and the production of films such as Pulp Fiction, The Lord of the Rings, Shakespeare in Love, and many others, Weinstein has also made a number of small film appearances. He can be seen in cameos in films he has produced, as well as in stand-alone roles, such as in Burn Hollywood Burn, where he played the character Sam Rizzo, which allows him to be classified as an actor as well.
In 2017, Weinstein was sued by six women and sentenced to 23 years in prison, but was later given an additional 16 years in 2022 for crimes committed in Los Angeles, effectively cementing his status as a lifer. This time, dozens of women, including famous actresses, have come forward to accuse him of forcing them into sexual relationships in order to save their careers, which has become the catalyst for the global #MeToo movement.
Since Harvey Weinstein is now 72 years old, he will never be able to walk free again.
