An interesting invention from the past is the 1954 Segway drone.
The De Lackner HZ-1 Aerocycle was created for the US military as a “personal helicopter” that can be learned to fly in 20 minutes. It accelerated to 120 km/h and could even land on water. True, there was only enough fuel for 24 km.
The project was closed due to impracticality and a dangerous design - two accidents occurred during the tests, one of which almost cost the life of the tester.
