“Sadistic sense of humor”: which scene George Lucas removed from “Star Wars” (4 photos + 1 video)
Star Wars fans were shocked to discover a scene that author, writer and director George Lucas removed from The Phantom Menace. It's about the moment when the alien's wife and children come to support him during the race.
The Hollywood space epic Star Wars has spawned numerous films, television series, graphic novels and video games. However, not all scenes were included in the final version of the cult film. One deleted scene from George Lucas' beloved franchise was discovered by fans who refused to believe it was even real.
Since the release of A New Hope in 1977, a growing legion of fans have enjoyed the adventures of characters from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. Within this universe, fans have received many storylines involving humans, aliens and robots. But despite so much happening, not everything makes it to the big screen.
One such scene, highlighted by one superfan, left other viewers shocked at how far Lucas had gone to the dark side. In a post on X, social media user Jacob recalled the offensive sequence that appeared in The Phantom Menace, the first prequel to the original trilogy.
"It's still surprising that they removed the scene from The Phantom Menace where the alien's wife and kids come to support him during a race and his speeder crashes and explodes horribly. They even mention that 'his wife just got out of the hospital.' WHAT, GEORGE?!" he wrote.
Along with his post, he included several photos of the family in question, and fans quickly reacted to the news, completely in disbelief that the scene was even filmed.
One correspondent noted: "The saving grace of the prequels is that they are truly amazing films."
Another said: "I told my friends about the scene and they refused to believe me that it was real."
A third added: "Facts. I need closure. One of the creepiest death screams in cinematic history."
And a fourth noted: "George has a not-so-secret sadistic sense of humor. Droids scream bloody noises when they get blown up. Aliens are destroyed for comedic effect. I've always found it unpleasant, but at the same time... interesting."
