Cool mother and her brave children (4 photos + 1 video)
Children are the most precious thing in the world. Parents make every effort to raise them and use any available resources to provide their sons and daughters with a decent future. But some are trying to make money thanks to their children. In a very specific way.
At the beginning of the twentieth century, when television was in its infancy, and the ability to get acquainted with updated news in a minute with the help of electronic gadgets was not even dreamed of, there were so-called film magazines. They were usually played in cinemas before films as a source of current news and entertainment. Among the most bizarre newsreel clips was that of Luella Gallagher, the knife-throwing mother.
In addition to Luella, the 1950 video featured her daughters, five-year-old Connie Ann and Collina Sue, who was only two and a half years old at the time.
As the announcer says, they “are very helpful to Mother Luella, who is not averse to taking up knives.” Connie Ann had already become a true veteran at that time and had worked through many of her mother’s training sessions and performances as a target.
After a significant number of knives accumulate around the girl, the baby gives way to her younger sister.
The announcer gets even more excited: “Obviously, Collina Sue trusts her mother’s aim more than the audience. To throw knives at a child, you need a keen eye and a strong heart. But this woman - William Tell (the legendary Swiss folk hero and skilled crossbow shooter) has no doubts and a lot of faith..."
Like any knife thrower, Gallagher was clearly confident in her skills.
David Adamowicz, a well-known modern knife thrower, emphasized that Luella Gallagher was definitely a very talented knife thrower. But in his shows he uses only adult girls as targets.
There is almost no information about the unusual family except for a video in a film magazine. Already in 1987, the name of Louella Gallagher appeared in the press again - in an issue of the Pittsburgh Press newspaper. Where a woman was thanked for participating in the “Hair Cut” charity event. If this was the same Luella, I'd like to believe that she trimmed her hair in different ways than she used to hone her knife-throwing skills.
