Photographer Travels Around the World Helping People Recreate Their Old Photos (17 Photos)
We all love soulful photographs from the past, which depict our childhood, adolescence or youth. Irina Werning from Argentina has a special love not only for her old photographs, but also for old photographs of all of us. It is for this reason that more than ten years ago she created the wonderful project “Back to the Future”, in which she asks her models to recreate favorite old photos.
It all started in 2011, when Werning and her friend were walking around their native Buenos Aires
A friend asked me to scan my mother's old wedding photos
And showed the place where they were made
It was then that Irina came up with the idea to repeat these photographs decades later.
The friend refused, but there were hundreds of people around the world who agreed
On social networks and on her website, Irina began to write what city she was going to
And she invited local residents to participate in a photo project
Participants send Irina their favorite old photos
And then they jointly look for clothes that are as similar as possible to the clothes in the photo.
Irina tries to repeat the scene and pose down to the smallest detail
The photographer then makes a collage that shows the contrast between the past and the present.
Irina took more than 600 photographs in 43 countries
Werning herself says her project was like a crash course in fashion, history and culture.
Back to the Future will definitely have a sequel
Irina communicates with many heroes from the photo
And after a while she dreams of repeating these pictures again
