On January 28, two unknown masked men entered a Catholic church in the European part of Istanbul and opened fire. As a result, a man born in 1972 died and several people were injured.
47 suspects were detained on suspicion of the emergency. Among them there is a citizen of Tajikistan and a Russian. Turkish intelligence services are checking them for connections with the Islamic State.
The incident occurred yesterday, around 11:40 local time, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in the Sariyer district. At that moment, Sunday service was going on, and there were many parishioners in the church. Surveillance cameras recorded the moment of the shooting.

Immediately after the emergency, the area of the church was cordoned off.
And after some time, the head of the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ali Erlikaya, announced the detention of the suspects:
“As part of the investigation into the case of an armed attack on a church, operations were carried out at 30 addresses, 47 people were detained, including one citizen of Russia and one citizen of Tajikistan, who may be associated with the Islamic State.”
According to the minister, “Istanbul has been home to representatives of various faiths for centuries, and it will continue to be so.” “We will never tolerate those who will try to disturb peace and tranquility in our country,” the TASS agency quotes Yerlikai.
