Why are many baby wild animals friendly to people? (5 photos)
Most cubs are friendly to humans and do not experience feelings of fear or anger towards them. Why hasn't nature corrected this systemic failure yet?
An incredibly terrible predator, capable of destroying thousands of living beings with his own hands, hugs a tiger cub.
We have all heard stories more than once about how bear cubs, wild boars and wolf cubs came to cuddle and play with people, although adult wild animals steadily obey the “hit-and-run” impulse. This is incredibly charming, but at the same time terribly dangerous: what if the kids meet not a cute mushroom picker, but an unscrupulous poacher? Or even with some wild predator? Why hasn't nature corrected this systemic failure yet?
Believe me, if she could fix it, she would. Child neglect is such a complex problem that most warm-blooded animals suffer from it. First of all, it is connected with the structure of the brain. Lizards, frogs and cockroaches are born to flee from a variety of dangers. But their learning abilities are also very limited.
Mammals and birds, on the other hand, rely heavily on learning in their lives. But it’s difficult to learn if the shelves in your brain are already full. Therefore, warm-blooded animals begin their life journey with a minimum of basic functions. The cubs' brain is as clear as a white sheet. Everything that is necessary will be written down in the process of growing up.
Young animals only get an idea of the dangers as they become pregnant or while observing the behavior of their parents. Well, if they see a person for the first time, then how do they know that it is something dangerous?
But the parents have enough anger and rage for all their offspring.
Another problem is a completely different set of hormones. The cubs' body is aimed at development, not survival, which is why its hormonal levels are strongly biased towards molecules responsible for growth. But substances that include aggression are synthesized in minute quantities and not even in full composition, since the genitals are not yet fully developed.
Kids treat well not only people, but also any other animals that do not show aggression.
So it turns out that animals and chicks hardly experience fear and anger. They just don’t understand: what exactly should scare them?
