Millions of tourists travel around the world to see the most famous sights with their own eyes. However, in some countries you can find many copies of these structures, statues and buildings. For example, the Eiffel Tower in Japan, or Big Ben in India. Let's take a look at the most iconic of the copies!

1. Replica of the White House in Iraq

This mansion in Iraq was built by local entrepreneur Shihab Shihab. He decided to emulate the "beauty and simplicity" of the White House in Washington, which was the residence of all US presidents. Construction cost the tycoon $20 million. Now a replica of the White House is located in the city of Erbil in northern Iraq. The ceilings and railings of the main staircase of the mansion are lined with 21-karat gold, and there is also a luxurious hammam.

2. Statue of Jesus Christ in Portugal

The most famous statue of Jesus Christ in the world is located in Rio de Janeiro, and its height is 38 meters. In 1934, the Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon saw this statue and decided to erect the same one in Portugal. The Portuguese version of the statue, Cristo Rey, was unveiled in 1959 and has a total height of 110 meters. The majestic monument, accessible by elevator, is located in Almada (Lisbon).

3. Statue of Liberty in Paris

There are hundreds of “replicas” of the Statue of Liberty in the world, but one of the most unique is located in the Chateau de Vaqueil in France. Her distinctive feature is torches in both hands. This version, entitled "Victory of Freedom" ("La Victoire de la Liberté"), was created by the famous artist Salvador Dali in 1972. A copy of Dali's original statue is also located in his hometown of Cadaques, Spain - it is also considered a symbol of Catalonia's independence from Spain.

4. Big Ben in India

This replica of Big Ben is located in Kolkata, at the crossroads leading to Lake Town. The clock tower was built in 2015, and it is much shorter than the original: its height is 30 meters, and the height of the original Big Ben is 96 meters. Although the construction of the clock tower caused a lot of controversy, it was still built.

5. Moai statues in Japan

At the Makomanai Takino cemetery in the Japanese city of Sapporo, 40 moai statues were erected, copies of the famous statues on Easter Island in the Pacific Ocean. The height of the original statues is on average 4 meters, and the Japanese ones - from 6.5 to 9.5 m. Copies of the moai are also in the Japanese park San Messe Nichinan.

6. Bangladeshi Taj Mahal

Bangladeshi director Ahsanullah Moni began building a full-size replica of India's Taj Mahal in 2003, and completed it five years later. He said he built the replica because "many Bangladeshis cannot afford to travel to Agra to see the Taj Mahal." About 40% of Bangladesh's population lives in poverty, so Moni decided to make it "only for the poor." In addition, he hopes that the grandiose structure will help attract more tourists.

7. Stonehenge in Australia

Stonehenge is a famous stone structure that is located in England and is listed as a World Heritage Site. Another Stonehenge can be seen in Western Australia. "Esperance Stonehenge" recreates what the original stones of Stonehenge would have looked like when they were originally installed, unworn by time. The replica was built on a farm and consists of 137 stones weighing 2,500 tons, which were carved from granite. In addition, the version is full-size and even astrologically verified.

8. Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in China

China has many replicas of famous landmarks from around the world. The theme parks World Park in Beijing and Window of the World in Shenzhen feature replicas of famous structures such as the Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, Leaning Tower of Pisa, and the infamous Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. Moreover, the towers were built in these parks even before the tragic eventsSeptember 11, 2001 - but after that the parks decided to keep them.

9. Eiffel Tower in Japan

Several replicas of the Eiffel Tower have been erected in Japan, but the most impressive is in Minato, Tokyo. It was built in 1958, and its height is 333 meters - it is 33 meters higher than the French original, and is the second tallest structure in Japan (after the 634-meter high broadcasting and observation tower). The Japanese Eiffel Tower has two observation decks at an altitude of 150 meters and 250 meters. Unlike the original, the tower is red and white: this is done in accordance with aviation safety rules.

10. Tutankhamun's tomb in Egypt

The original tomb of Tutankhamun, of course, is also located in Egypt - but not far from it there is a detailed copy. Due to the large number of tourists, the original tomb is in danger - each visitor literally brings its destruction closer. That's why in 2014, artist Adam Lowe created a replica of the tomb, which cost $690,000. To achieve perfect similarity between the new and old tombs, experts used 3D scanners and computer technology.
