An investigation has been launched at Adelaide nightclub Woolshed following a "Take off your bra and chill" event. Patrons were offered free alcohol in exchange for their bras, and size mattered: an "A" cup was one drink, a "B" was two drinks, a "C" was three drinks, and so on.

The establishment was fined A$3,897. The “bigger is better” advertising idea, which the pub owners thought was funny, did not go down well with many customers and the authorities.

The establishment was found to have broken several laws and was fined by the Australian Liquor and Gaming Commission.

“Gender-based advertising campaigns, including those that objectify people, not only do not meet society’s expectations, but are also a violation of the law,” Dini Soulio, head of the Commission, said in a statement.

The action caused a negative reaction from users of social networks. It was called "misogynistic nonsense" and a "very bad idea."

“As soon as it comes to free booze, bra removal, or the idea that bigger is better, all the wild, horny scumbags come out.”

“It’s hard to keep drunk men at bay, and then there’s the pressure of taking off their bras.”

“This was a terrible idea from the start, whoever came up with it and then allowed it to spread should be in big trouble.”

The poster advertising the event was promptly removed

The club paid the fine and apologized:

“We would like to address the concerns raised regarding a recent social media post made by our nightclub. We sincerely apologize that this post made some of our visitors feel uncomfortable and body shamed, as that was not our intention.

Based on feedback from our visitors, we have canceled this promotion and are currently developing ideas for other promotions that promote a fun, safe and inclusive environment for everyone. Going forward, senior management will be reviewing all promotional activities to ensure they create an inclusive environment for all our visitors.”

However, not everyone was happy with this. Some visitors said that they were really looking forward to this event:

“I was looking forward to my 8 free drinks, people need to relax a little”, “What is going on with this world? They don't force you. If you don’t like it, don’t do it, don’t go, but don’t ruin the fun for others!”
