In China, a bus station weighing 30,000 tons was once moved (3 photos + 2 videos)
Chinese engineers have set a Guinness World Record by moving a 30,000-tonne bus terminal in Xiamen 288 meters using hundreds of hydraulic jacks and trolleys. 
Houshi Bus Station is located in Jimei District, Xiamen City, Fujian Province, China. Four years ago, local authorities decided to move one of the terminals to another street, and also rotate it 90 degrees to make way for the construction of a new high-speed railway. 
After considering possible options, engineers decided to move the entire station, which is difficult to do with a structure weighing 30,000 tons, or 170 Boeing 737 passenger aircraft.
To implement the idea, it was necessary to lay down the rails and install at least 532 powerful hydraulic jacks capable of lifting the structure and holding it while moving. 
To minimize the risk of human error, engineers divided the jacks into two groups, each controlled by a computer. Both groups worked in turns: one lifted the building and “stepped” forward, after which the second group repeated the same movement. Thus, a visual illusion was created that the station was running.
Every day the building moved about 20 meters. It took 40 days to move the structure, which set a Guinness record.

Interestingly, the construction of the intercity bus station in Houshi in 2015 cost approximately $39 million, and the operation to move it to a new location cost $7.5 million.
