The incident occurred on the morning of August 18 in the city center near the Burger King cafe. A black graduate student had a conflict with 23-year-old Danila Fomin. During the fight, he pulled out a knife and stabbed Francois several times in the chest and abdomen. Reportedly, passers-by approached the police several times and asked to intervene in the conflict, but they did not take the fight seriously and got out of the car when Francois was already lying on the asphalt with stab wounds.

According to Danil Fomin, he stood up for a girl who was being pestered by a black graduate student - he allegedly licked her hand. And the knife, as the detainee said, was taken out and used for self-defense. It is known that Francois spent the night before the tragedy with his friends at a club and may have been drunk. As for the version of the injured party, it is argued that the conflict occurred on the basis of racial hatred. The Investigative Committee claims that the conflict is domestic in nature.
