Already in 2024, three rovers, the size of a suitcase for a hand put it on, let's go explore the moon. The main feature of the new moon rovers is teamwork without direct control from the Earth.

Nova-C small lander will bring rovers to the area Rainer Gamma, which is located in the Ocean of Storms. Lunokhods will reveal solar panels and charge the batteries, and then proceed to carry out tasks for which they are given one lunar day (14 Earth days).

The new project was named CADRE (Cooperative Autonomous Distributed Robotic Exploration) - team exploration by autonomous robots.

The base station located on the lander will take instructions from the Earth and set a goal for the lunar rovers.

"We want to demonstrate that mobile robots are capable of team to perform tasks without human intervention. In the future this experiment can change the way we approach research," says Subha Commander, head of the CADRE project.

After receiving the first instructions from the base station, the command robots will choose a "leader", who, in turn, will distribute tasks to fulfill a collective goal. Then each rover will decide how the safest way to complete the task.

"The instruction will be simple. For example, "explore this area." Everything else is decided by the rover itself: when to go, which path to take, how overcome obstacles," says Jean-Pierre de la Croix, head of project.

Lunokhods must install cameras and georadar to create a three-dimensional map of the lunar surface.

Also in 2024, NASA plans to carry out a second flight with crew around the moon, and a year later - to land on the surface of the satellite first woman and colored person. If successful, the Artemis program will return a man to the moon for the first time since the 1972 Apollo 17 mission.
