New Mercedes-Benz models will complain about bad roads (2 photos)
As part of a pilot program by a German concern studying communications between vehicle and infrastructure in cars Mercedes-Benz, Boston City Hall will have access to official anonymous data showing on which city streets and where exactly the suspension works most actively. Thus, Mercedes will assist in the work road service teams.
Previously, road workers relied on phone calls "311" - designed for round-the-clock access to all services non-emergency city services. So soon the local road builders will know the coordinates of every pothole that gets in the way of one or another "Mercedes".
In this generally positive story, two points are confusing. Firstly, only the latest models will be able to transmit data. "Mercedes", which are in constant exchange of data with central computer, and as you know, there are few of them. Secondly, luxury cars do not drive on any roads, i.e. will be monitored mainly tracks with initially good coated.
However, Boston has previously been distinguished by unconventional approaches to road monitoring issue. Back in 2011, the city authorities in order to combat potholes and ruts, they suggested that citizens install on their smartphones have a special application that, using the accelerometer and GPS-navigator would automatically fix and record on the map any unevenness.
