Two circles were drawn on a white tablecloth. The task of the snails was to crawl 33 cm in any direction. The world record in these races was set in 1995 and is 2 minutes 20 seconds.
The World Championships in Kongham, England kicked off on 9 July 2023 after a hiatus from 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The meaning of the competition is that slippery creatures must get to the outer circle of the table as quickly as possible, overtaking their opponents.
This competition has its origins back in the 1960s after founder Tom Elwes watched snail races at an event in France.
