The abandoned village of lighthouses and the lighthouse of Cape Vyevnavolok (33 photos)
In 2007, the settlement Mayak Vyevnavolok was officially abolished, although it was empty much earlier. Keep people pretty a remote location made no sense, since the updated lighthouse was already did not need constant maintenance.
Cape Vyevnavolok is located between the lips of Ara and Ura. get there walking to the cape is extremely problematic, to the nearest town (closed Vidyaevo military base) go almost 20 km along the rocks. The only option - go to the cape by boat, but in this case it is advisable to have boarding pass.
We will examine the preserved village of lighthouses. View from the cape towards the famous Rybachy Peninsula.
View of Malaya Kalinova Bay, where we left the boat. It was not possible to land immediately at the lighthouse because of the sheer cliffs.
Previously, from the village of lighthouses to the bay there was a road from wooden flooring. Over time, the wooden decks have rotted noticeably, they can barely support a person's weight.
View from the road to the village of lighthouses, you can see the buildings and the lighthouse itself. To the right, Shalim Island rises above the horizon.

Tanks with fuels and lubricants.
Sheer cliffs did not allow delivering goods directly to the lighthouse, therefore, to raise fuel and provisions, a fairly large curious design.
At the top of the cliff there was a gearbox that pulled a trolley with a load along a cable.
The trolley moved on a narrow-gauge road, which began at the gearbox and ended almost at the water's edge.
The road is laid at a steep angle, a real "roller coaster".
The top "station" where the gearbox is located.
Similar mechanisms for lifting/lowering a cargo trolley can still be found at some lighthouses.
Let's take a look at the village.
The first capital building combined the functions of a power plant and a boiler house. The boilers are surprisingly preserved.
Heating boilers KCHM-1 manufactured by the sanitary ware factory named after I. Greifenbergeris (Lithuanian SSR). These boilers from the 1960s are still since they are used in small boiler houses, they say they are made very qualitatively.
Generators were located in the next room. one building provided electricity and heat to the entire small village and the lighthouse.
View from the window on the Sredny and Rybachy peninsulas.
It is time to inspect the lighthouse itself, since the door was hospitably open. In the distance, on the hill, you can see a military facility, which I also show below.
Modern lighthouse equipment. small white box allows the beacon to autonomously support its work, so the need for the whole village of lighthouses has disappeared.
Rechargeable batteries that are charged by solar panate at the top of the lighthouse. Now it is only occasionally held here. service, and earlier lighthouses had to constantly be in settlement and maintain the work of not only the lighthouse, but also the boiler house with power plant.
Let's go upstairs.
The sea and the island of Shalim, and in the distance to the left you can even see the legendary island of Kildin.
Thousands of such abandoned lighthouse villages are scattered across around the world. Progress does not stand still, and modern satellite navigation allows you to accurately determine the location of the vessel without support to a whole network of lighthouses, which previously had to be serviced manually.
This lighthouse was at least lucky to undergo repairs and modernization.
Its bright yellow paint stands out against the background of shabby residential buildings. buildings in which only stoves and bed frames have been preserved.
Toilet with a romantic sea view. Probably, one could sit here for a long time and think about the high.
Not far from the village of lighthouses is a former military facility. This is a technical supervision post (PTN).
Previously, sea control was carried out from this building, a locator was even installed on the roof.
View from the roof of the PTN to the lighthouse and the village.
Equipment was located on the first floor, and the second was residential. Few objects of the harsh northern life have been preserved.
Time to get back to the boat. Along the way, I came across valerian flowers among the ruins.
Already by the sea, we examined another building. Here located the power plant of the military unit, which used to be on shore of the bay and had nothing to do with the lighthouse. Now from her also remained a couple of empty ruins.
