The 1970s were full of frills and ostentation, ultra-luxury and maximum comfort. For the automotive industry, please attention to the Ford Lincoln Continental Mark V to see how the this need for extra-brightness.

In the late 70s, some of the greatest American cars ever made. Several decades ago it was believed that the more the better.

At that time, the American obsession with power was gone and in premium cars. Of course, everyone wanted to have a good acceleration and torque, but all this has faded into the background and is much more important were such characteristics as comfort, noiselessness, convenience and equipment.

With such data, I present to you the best American car of the end 70s. We are talking about the model Lincoln Comntinental Mark V, that is, about representative of the extremely popular luxury coupes produced by the premium division of Ford.

It was produced from 1956 to 1960 and again from 1969 to 1998. There were seven generations, the largest of which was the fifth (1977-1979), about which you are currently reading. At 5.9 meters long, the Mark V is the most largest Ford coupe in history and sold very successfully in three years production produced 228,862 copies.

Lincoln also collaborated with many fashion houses, and each of them presented their versions. There were versions: Bill Blass, Cartier, Givenchy and Pucci, and the model in this article is one of 2262 copies, released in 1979 in collaboration with Givenchy.

Most of the sold Mark V coupes remained in the Americas due to the fact that the rest of the world did not particularly perceive square shapes, in difference from the same European models. But it was like that before. Now such I also like to buy cars in Europe.

Under the hood is a 6.6-liter V8 engine. It develops only 166 hp. and maximum torque of 433 Nm.

The numbers are certainly disappointing. This engine, named Cleveland (after the city of the same name where it was produced), was actually the only variant during 1979, and a year earlier the Mark V could be ordered with an even larger “eight” with a working volume of 7.5 liters with 208 hp. and maximum torque of 483 Nm. In both cases the power transmitted to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic gearbox.

The Mark V Givenchy cost around $22,000 ($79,600 today), and it could be purchased with all the options available at the time.

But especially today, such a pleasure "from the past" has to be paid, since such Lincolns are quite rare.
