A bloodthirsty stoat killed a rabbit four times its size (7 photos)
The dramatic events were witnessed by 52-year-old gas engineer and amateur wildlife photographer Scott Honeyman on a road near Dunkeld, Perthshire. The photographer could hardly believe his eyes when a small stoat started hunting a rabbit four times its size.
The chase lasted a total of 10-15 minutes before the stoat killed the rabbit and dragged it into the roadside bushes.
The average weight of an adult stoat is about 260 g, while an adult rabbit weighs 1-2 kg. Despite this difference, rabbits are the main source of food for carnivorous animals.
Stoats also feed on insects, fish, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates.
