Emmy Abrahamson claims that during a chance meeting on the street, feelings instantly flared up between her and Vic Kochula.
In 2006, 41-year-old Emmy Abrahamson from Sweden was in Amsterdam when she was approached by a stranger, and the woman says despite her “beautiful brown eyes,” she immediately knew he was sleeping on the street because of his dirty clothes and hair.
But the pair started talking and there was instant chemistry between them - so strong that after 10 minutes of conversation, Emmy agreed to a second date with Vic a week later on the same bench.
When Emmy soon had to return to Vienna, where the writer lived at the time, she thought that she would never see or hear from Vic again, but three weeks later he called and said that he had gone to Austria to look for her.
More than 10 years have passed since then, and the couple are raising 6-year-old twins Desta and Til.
Emmy Abrahamson said: “I could see straight away that he was homeless because he was very dirty, as were his hands and nails. He was holding a leather briefcase, the kind that I thought crazy people had, but I later found out that was where he kept his sleeping bag and cans of beer.”
“We started chatting and I realized he had the most beautiful brown eyes I’d ever seen and he immediately made me laugh.”
The couple got married in a fairytale castle and Vic changed his lifestyle by starting to work as an electrical engineer.
And although the spouses tell their children about the circumstances of their meeting, they are not at all sure that they fully understand the uniqueness of this story.
Vic explains: “We told them everything that happened. I don't think they understand the social aspects of it all, they just think it's funny that dad lived in the bush."
