There have been cases in US history when the government issued large denomination dollar bills, which are now very rarely seen. But first things first.
1. A $500 bill.
Published once in 1928. It depicts the twenty-fifth President of the United States, William McKinley. Today, there are only a few of these banknotes left. They have not been withdrawn from circulation and have full purchasing power.
2. A $1,000 bill.
Also produced from 1928 to 1946. In 1969 they were withdrawn from circulation. The banknotes depict the 24th President of the United States, Gruver Cleveland.
3. A $5,000 bill.
Banknotes of this denomination were first printed in 1934. In 1969 they were withdrawn from circulation. Today, there are only approximately 500 of these banknotes left. Can be purchased at an online auction.
4. A $10,000 bill.
This is the largest bill ever issued for public circulation in America. Its circulation years are the same as the previous banknote. True, there is no portrait of the president on it.
5. A $100,000 bill.
In fact, this is not a banknote, but a gold certificate that served exclusively for the purpose of settlements between US financial institutions. A total of 42,000 such banknotes were issued. Today they serve exclusively for educational purposes.
