I did a little tinkering today at the dacha; I had some old tools on hand.
I took a sip of beer, lit a cigarette and remembered how my grandfather worked as a carpenter and mechanic in the village. My father and I built a house (dacha) ourselves in the Kaluga region. I remembered what kind of tools they used back then, they cut logs, adjusted floors, later repaired Zhiguli... After all, there was no concept of “Professional”, “Amateur” then... Each carpenter customized an ax, chisels, plane,... Father I was forbidden to take a carpenter's ax into the forest to chop brushwood for the stove. I remember how with a three-edged file on the porch they sharpened a two-handed saw (in common parlance - Friendship 2), a hacksaw for wood..., each tooth was sharpened. After all, that instrument was of high quality, although it did not have a very impressive appearance. I still keep the pliers and pliers that my grandfather used, they are already over 70 years old!!! And everyone works for the good of man. The only thing I don’t use now (I nailed it to the wall) is a hacksaw for wood and a tool for stripping bark. In recent years I have bought a lot of power tools, “professional” plumbing ones, but sometimes for the soul I still use my grandfather’s, my father’s. In the fall, I lubricate it and put it along with all the tools for the winter. And, after all, such things were done in the villages with these tools (especially carpentry tools). I remember how the whole village of men got together and built a house for someone, a stable for someone, an extension for someone... And what kind of log houses they made, windows, doors,..., floors that didn’t creak. Ah, shutters!
Whoever knows will understand me.
